MG or Morris Garages having the United Kingdom as its origin is now a subsidiary of state-owned Chinese (Shanghai) automotive SAIC(Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation).

Originally started as a British Sports Car Manufacturer by, the company took rebirth and now delivers vehicles in multiple segments such as Saloons, Coupés, etc. MG has gone through a lot of and has seen a lot of changes. Since 1935, it was personal property which belonged to William Morris, but in 1952 it merged with Austin and this merger resulted in British Motor Corporation(BMC).

Story of MG Motor UK Limited
1968, a new merger between Leyland Motors and British Motor Holdings leads to the formation of British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC). The merger continued for a long time, but in 2005 MG Rover group collapsed and was acquired by Nanjing Automobile. The Chinese Automotive Manufacturer brought all the assets of the company. But in 2007, Nanjing Automobile was acquired by SAIC motor and the company was renamed MG Motor UK Limited.
Intresting ownership history
Since the acquisition of MG by the Chinese Automaker, they manufacture the Vehicles in China and Thailand. Also, MG Motor has established itself as the largest importer of Chinese-made cars in the United Kingdom. Under the Chinese Automotive Manufacturer named Nanjing Automobile had delivered models named MG TF, MG 3, and MG 7. After the merger, the Company manufactured its Vehicles at the Longbridge Plant situated in the United Kingdom, but now it has been turned into a design studio and after 2016 China and Thailand are the only manufacturing houses for the MG vehicles.

3rd Best Manufacturer in Auto Express 2014
Voted third place for the ‘Best Manufacturer’ category in Auto Express 2014 Drive survey and winning the 2014 Manufacturer’s Championship, the Company celebrated its 90th birthday. In 2014, the MG3 model brought huge sales to the company, making it high up to 361% increase.
Lots of Engineering efforts and Research makes their vehicles secure a place in the best vehicles category. We have seen the company putting splendid efforts into the Research field as they converted their Longbridge Plant to a research center and also the SAIC Design in 2018 opened a new and advanced design studio in London. This new design studio deals with the advanced design of MG and Roewe vehicles.
MG and Car Championships
Since the start, MG has also been a Motorsport Company which have been actively taking part in the Car Championships, but after facing a lot of Ownership issues, the company in 2012 finally announced that it would enter the 2012 British Touring Car Championship with its KX Momentum Racing Team.

Since then the MG has been continuously taking part in Various Motorsport Events. In 2019, MG made a huge comeback in the market with an engineered version of the Baojun 530( a compact crossover SUV produced by SAIC-GM-Wuling) launched as MG Hector. MG made huge sales with this vehicle as this was the Debut vehicle for some Asian markets such as India, etc.
MG has also been actively working in the Electric Vehicles field and has delivered one of the best and High range SUVs named MG ZS EV. MG has always been one of the best companies in the world but after its acquisition by the SAIC, the company’s Roller Coaster ride of Ownership has come to a straight path, which made the company stable.
