In the field of Luxury and High-Speed vehicles, the German automakers are already dominating. But looking into the needs of this era, German Car manufacturers like Audi have also stepped into this game of fully electric vehicle with their debut All Wheel Drive (AWD) electric vehicle named Audi E-Tron.

Audi Electric Vehicles : First One Audi e-Tron

Audi at the International Motor Show(IAA) organized in 2015 in Frankfurt demonstrated their first e-Tron Quattro concept which was finally revealed as a Final Production Version in 2017 at San Francisco. It delivered a range of 204 miles (328 km),  but later on, in the next models, it was tuned to deliver a range of 222 miles (357 km) on a full charge. The Vehicle was a huge hit and was available in different variants such as luxury SUVs and the Sportsback variants.

Audi unveiled their first electric vehicle of the series named e-Tron in 2009. Before delivering their first Fully Electric SUV in 2019, Audi had revealed their Plug-in-Hybrid EV named A3 Sportsback E-Tron in 2012 and launched it for European customers in 2014 and American Customers in 2015.

Audi worked continuously to reduce the charging time and now they are able to charge the vehicle from 0 to 80% in 30 minutes through the SAE J1772 charging connector.

The E Tron is less efficient than the Tesla but since it is least affected by Temperature changes so it can be used in Winters also. Apart from improved charging speed and Great performance, Audi is able to deliver a premium cockpit experience to its customers with great features such as Amazon Alexa Voice Control, Virtual Cockpit System, Premium Sound systems such as Bang and Olufsen, adaptive Cruise control, automatic parking assist and night vision, etc.

Audi has earned a great name in major countries of the world such as Norway where it delivered the best-selling EV in 2019 and in 2020 New Zealand government purchased E-Tron EVs for use as official government vehicles.

Audi Q4 e-Tron and Audi e-Tron GT

Audi is expected to launch new vehicles such as the Audi Q4 e-Tron and Audi e-Tron GT in the upcoming years. Currently, Audi is working on 4 EV platforms named MLB EVO, J1 Performance Platform(developed by Porsche for the Taycan which will be used for the production of the Audi e-Tron GT Concept vehicle), Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB- used for small and medium-size cars in its lineup), Premium Platform Electric (PPE- designed and developed jointly by Audi and Porsche for medium and large premium vehicles).

The introduction of new and compact Powertrains has led the company to increase the cabin space without increasing the physical dimensions of the vehicle. Audi’s four-door flagship Electric vehicle named Audi e-Tron GT, which is in its concept phase is expected to be having a great performance and more space due to the use of a compact powertrain. Like e-Tron GT, Q4 e-Tron is also in the concept phase and it is expected to have a virtual Cockpit, Touch Elements on the steering, Head-Up display with Augmented Reality, etc.

According to the designers of the car, the car is going to be sporty which will deliver acceleration of  0 – 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The best part about the upcoming Audi’s vehicle is that the company is recycling the materials to make Floorings, etc. This concept is expected to go on production in mid-2021.

Audi Backed up by Volkswagen is working in collaboration with other companies to deliver their best vehicles. By 2024, Audi has announced an investment of approximately €12 billion globally.  To ensure a sufficient stake in the Electric Vehicle Market, Audi is expected to set the production of approximately 800,000 electric vehicles per year by 2025.
