Polestar company profile, history and EVs

Like Volvo, Polestar is also one of the best vehicle manufacturer based in Sweden. Established in 1996 by Flash/Polestar racing, finally came under Volvo in 2015, which is also a subsidiary of Geely (which is a Chinese international automotive company).

Headquartered in Sweden, the company makes Electric Performance Cars and also offers software and hardware optimizations for Volvo cars. The company traces back to a Racing Team named Flash Engineering, which used to participate in Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC).

Polestar Racing, then Cyan Racing and Finally Polestar

Later on, its complete team was sold and rebranded as Polestar Racing, which became Volvo’s official partner in 2009 to engineer the Volvos for Racing. They renamed the racing team to Cyan Racing while in 2017, the company finally announced to produce high-end electric vehicles under the name Polestar.

In the past, Polestar has produced multiple models of Volvo’s vehicles (concept and production) which operate on fuel and some of them are hybrid. But since the brand is focusing on establishing itself as a fully Electric Vehicle Manufacturer so they unveiled their first hybrid vehicle named Polestar 1 in 2017 and Polestar 2 in 2019. The Polestar 1 features an electric hybrid drivetrain which delivers an output of 450 kW.

Also, it promises to deliver a range of 150 km (93 mi) with a 34 kWh battery pack on pure Electric mode. While the Polestar 2 is a fully battery-operated vehicle that can deliver a power output of 300 kW on a 78 kWh battery pack which promises a range of 470 Km. In the upcoming years, the company has been planning to deliver high-end electric vehicles named Polestar 3, Polestar 4, and Polestar 5.
