Founded by Adam Opel in Germany, Opel is a German automobile brand that itself is part of multiple brands that comes under the umbrella of its parent brand Stellantis. Before Stellantis, the company has been under multiple ownerships such as from 1929 to 2017 under General Motors and from 2017 to 2021 under the PSA group, which is a predecessor of the Stellantis group.

Opel and its subsidiary  Vauxhall

Headquartered in Rüsselsheim, the company operates in multiple countries. The company also has a subsidiary named Vauxhall which also operates in almost 60 countries and sell some of Opel’s vehicle under its brand name. Starting in 1862 with Sewing Machines and then bicycles, the company has taken a long way to become an automobile manufacturer.

IC-Engine vehicles to Electric vehicles

From making IC-Engine vehicles initially, the company has also started delivering Electric vehicles and now the company has plans to become purely electric in the future. Having served in all the Vehicles segments, the company now majorly focuses on SUVs, Vans, Tourers, and other light commercial vehicles such as Vivaro, Combo, Zafira, etc.

Speedster in 1999 and Opel Adam S

The company delivered its first Sportscar in 1999 which was named Speedster and the company has also been in motorsports for a long time. In 2013, the company returned to motorsport competition and in 2014 it presented a road-legal sport version of the Adam R2 Rally Car named Opel Adam S.

GM’s cash cow

Opel had been seen as GM’s cash cow in Europe because it performed very well in Europe and some of its models have also been awarded as European Car of the year award. The company entered and exited multiple countries and also came under various Parent brands but now the company has come under Stellantis which also holds other brands such as Peugeot, Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep, etc. Under Stellantis, Opel collectively manufactures its vehicles and sells them under multiple brand names.
