Ford officials have confirmed that the total number of reservations for the “Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Truck” has crossed 100,000! It shows that Electric pickup trucks are of great interest to customers.
It needs to be noted that Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Truck was unveiled on May 19, 2021, and a fully refundable deposit of $100 is required for the reservation. Interesting fact is that it just took three weeks to achieve this milestone.
That’s why Ford is now considering a smaller electric pickup, possibly based on the all-new Maverick model. Customers want electric pickups — certainly not all, but it’s such a large market segment that demand is probably overwhelming.
Let’s take a step back to see how the reservation progressed:
- 20,000 in 12 hours (May 20)
- 44,500 in 48 hours (May 21)
- 70,000 in about 8 days (May 27)
- 100,000 in about three weeks (June 9)
Initially, Ford displayed the generic version of the Ford F-150 Lightning, which did not have all the details and pricing data. We guess the commercial version Ford F-150 Lightning Pro fueled additional demand, and they announced it on May 24.
The price of a commercial version with a standard-range battery starts at $39,974 (MSRP), while the extended-range battery pushes the price up by $10,000 to $49,974. The retail version price also starts at $39,974, but there is no detail of price of the extended-range battery version.
By observing the early sales results for the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the top-notch number of reservations for the Ford F-150 Lightning, we infer that Ford’s strategy to electrify its top models is the right one. Probably the Ford E-Transit will also sell well. If so, Ford will probably move on, perhaps with a Bronco.
This is good news for the EV market and a much better situation than it was 5-10 years ago when we only saw the compliant Ford Focus Electric and a few plug-in hybrids.
